Thornhill FlooringPets are a great addition to the family, but sometimes they can do damage to your beautiful floors. With nails scraping across the floor and the occasional accident, not every floor is ideal for houses with pets. This is why it’s important to consider your pets’ tendencies when shopping for floors. Fortunately, the experts at Floor Coverings International North York have shared their three favorite pet-friendly flooring options below!

Laminate Hardwood

Laminate is a great way to achieve the look of hardwood while also providing durability and scratch-resistance. They are very easy to maintain and generally much cheaper than solid hardwood. The only downside of laminate is that it tends to be more slippery than hardwood, so pets won’t have as much traction.

Luxury Vinyl Tile

Luxury vinyl tile (or LVT) can replicate the look of many popular flooring types such as ceramic tile or hand-scraped hardwood. It is affordable, durable, and scratch-resistant. It holds up well to moisture, making cleaning up messes very easy. Another benefit is that LVT is a softer floor, making it more comfortable for your pets play on.

Porcelain and ceramic tiles are scratch-resistant, durable, and hard to damage. They are available in a wide variety of colors, sizes, textures, and designs, so you can customize your flooring to fit your particular design taste. The tile squares will probably last longer than the grout, but tile grout can easily be redone. Tile can be cold, however, but the floors can easily be warmed up with a rug or under-floor radiant heating.
