At Floor Coverings International North York we know that a beautiful home is more than beautiful flooring, and we want you to have the home you’ve always dreamed of! That’s why we’re bringing you this exclusive interview with blogger, realtor, and interior designer Katie Kurtz of adorned homes! Ready to be inspired?
Please tell us a little about yourself.
I am a Minneapolis realtor and small business owner offering interior design, staging and renovation services to my clients. I have spent the last 12 years renovating investment properties with my husband, which led to our participation in the renovation reality show Rowhouse Showdown on the FYI Network hosted by Carter Oosterhouse. Definitely the most “hands on” team on the show! We bust our butts every day working in the field with clients and getting our hands dirty with our remodels. I love mixing the old with the new. Some of my favorites are mercury glass vases, distressed wood furniture, anything white and the soft gold trend going on right now!
Why did you decide to start a blog? What do you enjoy about blogging?
I started a blog to show clients that there are realtors out there who can offer the full circle of home services. I showcase my renovation and design projects as well as the staging in the homes I sell as a realtor on the blog, adorned homes. My clients get a full-service real estate agent as well as a trained professional in design and renovation, which I show them on adorned.
How would you describe your renovation and interior design style?
I have a hard time really putting myself into one design style. I have such a huge appreciation for the work of artists and designers, so anything that you can tell is well done and nice to look at I’ll try for myself! Craftsman style, modern, luxury… I love it all!! More specifically, when I am renovating an investment property I look at the style of the house. I like to bring the house up to date but stick with the bones of the style of the home. I also love to mix and match. Something soft with something a little hard, such as flowery wallpaper with skull decor pieces! We’ve been seeing the gold skulls everywhere lately, so it’s fun to put unique pieces into a room.
Where do you find your inspiration?
I often follow my own trends, and I do what feels right for a space while keeping in mind what the client or future buyer wants. I love Instagram and VERANDA magazine to see what other people are doing. I find that you can learn so much from engaging with other people on the web!
Tell us about a recent project you’re proud of.
I recently designed a master suite with a bathroom that was to die for! It had soft gold fixtures, his and her showers, carrera, Quartz and these gorgeous Mercury glass pendants above the double vanities and makeup vanity. The mirrors over the sinks and vanity went to the ceiling, giving the room extra height and extra glitz!
Is there anything else you’d like to share?
I think people should prep before they start searching for a professional to help them with a new home or a renovation. They should sit down and really figure out what they need, what they want, what style are they looking for, and what they plan to do with the house, etc. It makes the process of finding the right pro to help you so much easier!
